Simon Egerton is an award-winning Musical Director, with TMA awards for Spy Society and Eric The Epic (Best Musicals). He is also a respected composer and song writer for both film and theatre and his notable projects include A Family Affair, System Error and Zombies & Assholes.
Simon has worked extensively in the arts for many years, in several capacities. As well as his work as a musical director and composer, he has also enjoyed success as a theatre director, actor and writer.
As a young man he was a dance repetiteur, working with many of the great companies including, the Royal Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, LCDT and the Kirov Ballet. He co-founded the Central School of Ballet and was appointed its first Director of Music.
He began his acting career with the comedy troupe Natural Theatre Co, with whom he toured extensively, using musical and physical skills. These same physical skills served him well in later roles; in Emile Wollk’s production of Charley’s Aunt (Royal Exchange) and in Phelim McDermott’s productions of A Family Affair and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (English Shakespeare Co, TMA Award). He combined all these skills as Maximillian in John Doyle’s acclaimed actor-musician production of Candide.
Simon studied singing at GSMD and holds a Masters degree in song writing from BSU. He has coached actors and singers at Opera North and the Royal Opera House, and was former Head of Music & Singing at Redroofs, LAPA and Italia Conti.
He also wrote a show entitled Biography for the late William Louther (Shaw Theatre).
Most recently, Simon directed the acclaimed Dracula; Sex, Sucking & Stardom tour. He is MD and composer / lyricist for Missing Pieces (by Graham Howes & Karen Lynne) in a creative team that includes Carole Todd and Richard Marcel. He wrote and performed the solo show Fag Ends & Families…! (touring in 2013), and is MD and composer / lyricist for Eastern Angles’ Parkway Dreams, touring in the spring of 2013.
