David Janson – Director
David Janson is an established theatre director. In 2019 he directed the UK tour of ‘Hormonal Housewives’ starring Vicki Michelle, plus ‘Perfect Wedding’ and Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Table Manners’ for Paul Taylor Mills’ Repertory Season.
His other directing credits include Ray Cooney’s ‘Tom Dick And Harry’ at Suffolk Summer Theatre Season, and the UK tour of ‘Home At Seven’ starring Brian Capron and Jenny Funnell for Elite Productions. He also directed the UK tours of ‘Death Toll,’ and ‘Murder With Love’ both for Talking Scarlet Productions. He directed the UK tour of Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Absent Friends’ and ‘The Other Side Of Chris Barrie.’ David was a member of the creative team for ‘Bloodbath – The Musical’ featuring Antony Costa, which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 2009.
David has directed numerous UK pantomimes including, ‘Dick Whittington’ (1995-96), and ‘Aladdin’ (1996-97), at the White Rock Theatre Hastings; ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’ at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon (1996-97); ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’ at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley (1997-98); ‘Cinderella’ at the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend (1998-99); ‘Cinderella’ at the New Theatre, Cardiff (1999-2000) all for E&B Productions. ‘Peter Pan’ at the Beck Theatre, Hayes (2003-04) for Qdos Pantomimes. ‘Cinderella’ (2008-09), ‘Aladdin’ (2009-10), ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’ (2010-11) and ‘Peter Pan’ (2011-12) all at the Central Theatre, Chatham, and Jack & The Beanstalk, (2012-13), Peter Pan (2013-14) and Snow White (2014-15) at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon all for Evolution Productions. Aladdin (2015-2016), Snow White (2016-2017) at Southport Theatre for Imagine and Jack & The Beanstalk (2017-2018) at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre (for Qdos Pantomimes), which won the award for Best Pantomime in the Midlands.
He has directed many household names in pantomime including, George Takei, Gareth Gates, Vanilla Ice, Bobby Davro, Lisa Riley, Matthew Kelly, Shaun Williamson, Steve McFadden, Joe Swash, Sue Hodge, Sylvester McCoy, Toyah Willcox, Sid Sloane, Lorraine Chase, John Virgo, Glenn Murphy, Bob Carolgees, John Altman, Phil Gallagher, Graham Cole, Laila Morse, Bella Emberg, Lynne McGranger, Paul Burling and Kerry Ellis.
David is an established voice-over artiste and director. He formed an audio production company producing tracks for radio and TV commercials for the Far East. Subsequently he was invited by the IBA to sit on the panel to judge the world’s best radio and TV commercials. He has produced commercials for satellite TV, and directed a pilot situation comedy. His animation voice over directing credits include, ‘Waybuloo,’ ‘Paco Nouky & Lola,’ ‘The New Famous Five,’ ‘Luke The Lifeboat,’ ‘Gene Fusion’ and ‘Scooba.’
David has specialist skills in working with children. He acted as UK voice director for the Disney Corporation on productions of ‘My Friends Tigger and Pooh,’ ‘Pooh Halloween’ and ‘The Heffalump Movie.’ He also directed 150 children in a gala spectacular at the Mermaid Theatre.
David is also very well known for his extensive acting career, which began at the age of nine. He appeared in the West End production of Oliver!, the Beatles’ film A Hard Day’s Night and in the RSC season at Stratford. He spent three years in one of TV’s first soap operas, The Newcomers, and gained acclaim in Get Some In, Don’t Rock the Boat and Grundy. He played Herr Flick in the last series of ‘Allo ‘Allo and Michael the postman in Keeping Up Appearances. He has worked extensively in London’s West End and in regional theatres throughout the UK.
